Throughout the decades, the stories offered by Theodor Seuss Geisel, more affectionately known by his pen name "Dr. Seuss," has enthralled, thrilled and even educated many generations. The stories of Dr. Seuss are unique from many children's stories in that they not only offer important life lessons about morality - but many of his stories also rise to a level of social and political commentary. In the innocence of the children's story, Theodor lambasted against the social ills of the day - pointing out where leaders and even entire nations failed some of the basic rules that children learn in grammar school.
In these powerful messages, the stories of Dr. Seuss can bring a smile to the face of both children and adult alike. So, it makes sense that the activities and games at seussville do the same. At Seussville, you and your child can explore, play and learn for hours. If your child complains of being bored, Seussville should be one of your very first stops.

Seussville Intro Video
When you first enter
Seussville, the first thing you'll see is a fun and innovative intro video where you are flying over a pop-up book featuring many different Dr. Seuss characters and titles. The background music is wonderful and engrossing - immediately you'll be drawn into this adorable online world.
Once the site is finished loading, you'll find yourself staring at an active online world filled with Dr. Seuss characters, motion and quirky and fun sounds and music.

Seussville Home Screen
The site builder did well in capturing the spirit of the stories and themes from Dr. Seuss books. The first screen will feel a little bit busy at first, but once you poke around with your mouse and get used to the layout, it isn't too bad.
As you roll the mouse over the different areas - such as the Jungle of Nool, McElligot's Pool or Whoville, a narrator's voice will speak the name of that destination - great for children who can't read very well yet. Even though it appears that there are a seemingly endless number of areas to explore - before long you'll realize that's just an illusion. The main page is a compilation of all of the areas you can access just by using the top menu (a nice thing for parents and educators to know).

The Educator Area
Speaking of parents and educators, there are two entire sections of this website dedicated to education. Both the parent and educators sections offer an impressive array of tools and resources that will assist in teaching children. The Educators area is almost filled with
more content than the children's area. Here, you'll find printables, events and programs for educators around the world, and you can even print out free lesson plans for the classroom in PDF format.

Classroom Resources
In the "Activities and Printables" section, you'll find pages and pages of all sorts of valuable activities that you can print out and distribute to your students in the classroom. These include coloring activities, puzzles, matching games, arts and crafts and more. For teachers that love Dr. Seuss and the messages that his stories convey, this area is a gold mine.

Areas Within Seussville
From the main screen, when you click on any area of the site, such as the Jungle of Nool or Mulberry Street, you'll discover an adorable world of animated characters and fun sound effects that really create an authentic atmosphere. When you click on a character, you're provided with a synopsis of the book where the character appears, and several navigation options - the Characters area, the Activities area or you can click on "Listen" to hear a quote from that character.

Learn About Seuss Characters
The one flaw in this part of the site is that it's easy for a child to get lost in the navigation scheme. When you click on Activities or Character, you end up on an entirely different part of the website where it isn't a simple task to return to the previous screen. The character activity area is an entire section of the site where you can learn a great deal about any character in Dr. Seuss' stories.

Games and Activities
The place where kids will have the most fun is in the games and activities area. While there aren't many games, the ones that are on the site are well designed and
very fun to play - even for adults!

Green Eggs and Ham Game
For example, in the A-maze-ing Green Eggs and Ham game, you have to navigate an egg through different mazes using only the number of gadgets and widgets that you're allotted. It's a lot of fun to use fans, springs and other devices to coax the green egg through this maze!

Activities
The Activities section of the site has lots of fantastic resources for kids to have fun - there's a flip book, printable coloring sheets, and even colorful math activity sheets.
Seussville is one of these children's sites that any parent can feel safe about letting children play, and confident that their children will enhance their education while exploring the site. Best of all, parents can rest assured that through the magic of Dr. Seuss, their children will also learn to expand their imagination.
