NetSmartzKids.org: Interactive Internet Safety Resources for Children and Students

NetSmartz.org is multi-faceted internet safety website from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children® (NCMEC). NetSmartzKids.org, a section of NetSmartz.org, is designed specifically for kids and includes tons of age-appropriate interactive and printable materials.

Resources such as movies, games, and songs can be used both at home and in the classroom. Watch as your child has fun while learning to be safe and responsible on and offline with Webster, Nettie, Clicky, Gig, Router, and the WizzyWigs (the bad guys online)!

Tunes: Rockin' and Rappin' with the NetSmartz Gang
The Tunes section of the website includes both songs and videos; however, they are all in video format, not MP3. There is a convenient embedded video player which makes watching videos quick and easy. DJ Clicky's rapping skills are impressive, which makes learning about internet safety entertaining for all ages!

UYN (Use Your NetSmartz): It's all about Safety
UYN includes many different resources that help teach children to be safe on the web. Video lessons make it easy for even the youngest child to understand. Topics include Instant Messaging, Computer Viruses, Chat Abbreviations, and a catchy Password Rap! You may also consider allowing your child to join "Club UYN" for free! Members get an exclusive official club kit that includes a secret decoder, a signed picture, a club card, and an iron-on patch. Club UYN also offers contests, additional games, videos, and more.

Games: Play and Learn While You "UYN"
There are currently 23 games on NetSmartzKids.org. Games include coloring, matching, and mazes, and each one is colorful, exciting, and safety-related. Each game appears in the game window at the top of the page, which means no confusing pop-ups for younger children.

Activities: Additional Safety Resources and Printables
There are currently 9 interactive quiz-style videos and 5 Print 'n Play activities. The interactive videos include guessing games, challenges, and an introduction to the WizzyWigs. These activities are ideal for a culminating project and would work well with any interactive whiteboard. Need a backup for when the Internet is down? Try the printables! Included are finger puppets, cards, and a pinwheel template, among others.

Want More? Check out Free Stuff and E-Mail
The Free Stuff section of the site offers wallpapers, audio clips, screensavers, a downloadable media player skin, and a NetSmartz theme. The E-Mail portion allows children to send e-cards that include pre-selected phrases, E-Mail a NetSmartz character, or sign up for the NetSmartz Kids Bulletin to receive the latest news.
