Virtual Pets - Adopt a Cat, Dog, Rabbit or Fish Online

Do your kids want a virtual pet, or "cyberpet"? The handheld digital pet Tamagotchi was invented in 1996 and became very popular, but now, the virtual pets can live in your computer instead!

There are several websites for children where they can adopt a pet.

Neopets.comNeopets.com is very popular. You can have up to four cyberpets per account, and you feed them and buy them toys, clothes and other accessories. In order to afford this, you need to earn Neopoints by trading or playing games.

Marapets.comAnother vitual pet website is Marapets.com. Here, you can take care of a virtual pet that someone else has abandoned, or create your own, new pet. You can even send your pet to school! Marapet is a community where you can join forums or participate in contests. You can also play dress-up games with dolls.

Moshimonsters.comAt Moshimonsters, you do not adopt and care for an ordinary pet like a cat, dog, fish, rabbit or monkey, but a monster! You can then get a home for your monster in Monstro City, and show it off to the world! To buy food and other stuff for you virtual monster, you need Rox, the currency of Monstro City. You can earn money by solving puzzles.

FoopetsAt Foopets.com, you adopt a very realistic looking abandoned cat or dog from a shelter. Some cats and dogs cost about 20 USD to adopt, but there are also a few you can adopt for free. You can play with balls or a frisbee, or feed your new pet.

At Furry Paws you adopt a virtual dog and then train, feed and show it. They have over 190 dog breeds to choose from.

In the virtual world Shidonni.com, children play with animals that they draw online - a combination of Windows Paint and a virtual pets world. You can also draw food and clothes for your pet. You can even play games with your friends.

Club Penguin is another kids community and virtual world website where you can adopt a pet or "puffle" for your penguin. Free memberships are available at Club Penguin, but in order to adopt a “puffle”, you need a subscribed membership. Read more about Club Penguin on Wikipedia.

Webkinz.comWebkinz.com is also a virtual pet community, but in order to create an account here, you first need to buy a real, physical stuffed animal. You then get to adopt its virtual counterpart online by using the 8-character code that is included with the toy. To get money to care for your virtual Webkinz pet, you can get a job such as making hamburgers, painting fences etc. Read more about Webkinz on Cnet.com.

Webkinz stuffed toys can be purchased at Amazon.com. Below, you can see a selection of cute Webkinz:

Webkinz Valentine Monkey

Plush Stuffed Animal Emperor Dragon

Webkinz Chocolate Lab

Adopting an online pet is mostly for fun, but some people think that caring for an online animal can also be educational and help children prepare for the task and responsibility of caring for a real pet.

Another way to use online virtual worlds for kids in an educational fashion is to register for an account at Handipoints. On Handipoints, kids have to complete the chore charts that parents set up for them in order to buy cool stuff for their cyberpets.

Foopets is a good site I only wish it was free. Numerous breeds of both cats and dogs to choose from, plus most members are nice and are willing to help. There are many items to decorate your pet's scene. You can have up to 50 pets or more if you breed them. I personally love foopets and have met many great friends on there.

Do NOT talk bout foopets like that. Yes you have to pay. But it's worth it. And the hate was maybe because they thought it was a spam

You should try foopets they have REAL virtual pets on that site and you can adopt a pet from the adoption store if you want no one else to take that pet.

02/05/2011 What.
Foopets. Worst welcome I ever got there. I join, post a nice, friendly "hi" in the introductions, and I get slammed with hate. Don't ever try it. All the other places are quite reasonable, though.
