Top Comics Creation Websites Of 2011
Not many people would look at comics as an educational resource. However, in an article titled "10 Comic & Cartoon Creators", Richard Byrne of Free Technology for Teachers reviews 10 useful websites that actually make creative use of comics to inspire young writers and readers.
|
Some of the sites that Byrne covered includes sites like one where students learn how to write character dialogues called
Witty Comics, a site where kids create their own super hero comic books called Super Hero Squad, and even a site called Make Beliefs that provides students with templates and characters they can use to customize their own comic strip.
Most of the sites listed by Byrnes in this article are some form of comic book generator - an online tool that provides the ability to generate customized comic books without the need for special drawing skills or formatting tools.
Other great resources listed by Byrnes in this article include
Artisan Cam,
Pixton,
PikiKids,
Strip Generator and more.
Most of these websites and tools are most useful inside of an English or Creative Writing curriculum, but with a little bit of creativity, many of these online resources could also come in handy inside any other curriculum as well. A science teacher could have students develop a super hero that saves the world using a scientific principle, or a history teacher could have students develop comic strips that represent an important moment in world history.
Take a look at Byrne's
well-written article, and see if there are any listed sites that might come in handy in your own classroom.
